Established in 1997, the Bend ReStore is one of over 800 stores and counting, operated in four countries by local Habitat for Humanity Affiliates.
The Bend ReStore opened in 1997 at Pakit Liquidators. Pat Korish, Pakit’s owner, gave the ReStore its start when he designated 500 square feet of his own retail space to Habitat to accept and sell donations of new and used building supplies and household goods.
Today the ReStore is located on 3rd Street (Highway 97) across from Robberson Ford and Wagner Mall, with approximately 18,000 sf of retail space. The ReStore funds nearly 3/4ths operating costs of Bend Area Habitat for Humanity, and facilitates the reuse of more than two million pounds annually of building material, furniture and major appliances.
The success of the ReStore is a credit to the community. Local suppliers, businesses, contractors and homeowners are increasingly generous in donating new and used materials. Habitat families, putting in their “sweat equity” hours; local volunteers; organizations, including the National Guard Oregon Youth Challenge Program and Heart of Oregon; and community service workers help staff the store and process donations.
This event is intended to raise funds for Bend Area Habitat for Humanity and bring inspiration to creative reuse.
